1910: Dr. Karreth launches Luitpold Werk-Chemisch, naming it in honor of the Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria.
1946: Natcon Chemical Co. founded in the U.S. as a manufacturer of various pharmaceutical products - ointments, creams, oral elixirs, cough preparations, capsules, and other patented medications
1967: Natcon Chemical Co. starts its American Quinine division, with a strategy of developing "niche" injectable products for the hospital market

1981: Luitpold-Werk (Germany) acquires Natcon Chemical Co., and changes its name to Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
1984: Adequan® i.m. (Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan) launched in the United States
1987: American Quinine is reorganized and renamed American Regent Laboratories, Inc., with the sole focus of developing and marketing hospital-based injectable products
1989: Adequan® i.m. (Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan) is launched, offering the benefit of systemic administration for horses.
The Luitpold Animal Health division manufactures and markets pharmaceutical products for the treatment of equine and canine joint diseases including Adequan® i.a., Adequan® i.m., and Adequan® Canine.

1991: Sanko Company Ltd., Japan's second-largest pharmaceutical company, acquires Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
1994: Osteohealth Company, a division of Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is launched to market natural source bone regeneration products for use in oral surgery and periodontal procedures
1996: American Regent Laboratories, Inc., launches its first NDA product, Dexferrum® (Iron Dextran Injectable, USP)
1997: Adequan® Canine (Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan) is launched in the United States

2000: Venofer® (iron sucrose injection, USP), manufactured by American Regent, Inc, receives FDA approval for treatment of iron deficiency anemia in hemodialysis patients receiving erythropoietin therapy, and in 2003 becomes the #1 prescribed IV iron in the U.S.
2002: American Regent Laboratories, Inc., is renamed American Regent, Inc.

2003: Luitpold Pharmaceuticals, Inc. acquires most of the assets of Protarga, Inc., a development stage pharmaceutical company pioneering Targaceutical® technology
Targaceutical® technology is a novel technology being developed to create a new class of drug products incorporating natural fatty acids to improve drug kinetics and distribution in the body.
Relative to the parent compound, Targaceutical® compounds may have increased pharmacological activity, reduced toxicity, and improved pharmacokinetic properties.
